Is Jessica Alba the Poor Womans Gwyneth Paltrow?

Though it's hard to consider any rich Hollywood actress relatable, Jessica Alba is positioning herself as the poor woman's Gwyneth Paltrow.

Unlike the British expat, who promotes such expensive items as $150 sweat pants, Alba is all about "repurposing things and making things at home."

Whereas Paltrow might search the world for the most expensive organic household cleaning products, Alba suggests making them yourself the "old fashioned way" with lemons and vinegar.

Paltrow advises women who want to be as skinny as twigs to hire a personal trainer to come to their homes once a week (preferable on Mondays); Alba recommends a cheaper alternative ! - "chasing your three-year-old around."

Ironically, Paltrow promoted Alba's business The Honest Company on her lifestyle blog GOOP last May and even gushed about the "Good Luck Chuck" star's earth-friendly goods. "Not only are the diapers incredibly cute, but they are also made from plant based materials, are completely non-toxic, and are free from any harmful chemicals. I wish they'd been around when my kids were in diapers."

But now that Alba has written "The Honest Life: Living Naturally and True to You," she has set out to distance herself from the older actress. Promoting her new book, the mother of two girls told a reporter, "Gwyneth Paltrow probably lives a very similar lifestyle, but I didn't grow up with a bunch of money, so my tips are much more grounded."

Not surprisingly, the blogosphere is divided over whether Alba is really more accessible to the average woman than Paltrow.

Celebitchy sided with Alba, noting she "wins in relatability." The celebrity blog panned Paltrow for telling "the peasants to stay in fancy hotels like the Ritz because they're totally worth it."

Perez Hilton also voted for Alba: "The difference between the ladies' books is that the 'Little Fockers' actress' advice is affordable to all, while Paltrow thinks it's ok to spend a butt-load of money on food."

Meanwhile, feminist blog Jezebel made fun of Alba's claim to be more access! ible, tak! ing her recycling claim to a bizarre level. "Unlike Gwynnie, Jessica Alba, her husband Cash Warren and their kids live in a house made of recycled Popsicle sticks," it mocked.

Whether anyone cares about this new front in the celebrity mommy wars is debatable. Both divas make millions on their movies and endorsement deals, and their idea of balancing a checkbook is likely walking with one atop the head to improve one's posture.

Until Roseanne Barr comes out with her own lifestyle blog, we suspect most women will remain skeptical that any rich celebrity can relate to their situation.
