Jessica Alba supports Safe Chemicals Act
London, Nov 17 : Actress Jessica Alba is pressurizing U.S. politicians to enforce stricter regulations for chemicals used in household products.
The Sin City star is supporting the Safe Chemicals Act, a bill that would require more thorough safety tests on substances used in consumer items.
Since becoming a mum, Alba has become increasingly concerned about toxic chemicals and is urging senators meeting at a hearing on Thursday to pass the legislation.
"I just gave birth to my second child, and I can tell you that there is no stronger instinct for a mom then (sic) wanting to protect her kids and keep them safe. My children have... made me conscious of every product I buy, from toys to mattresses to cleaning products...," Daily Star quoted her as saying in a blog for the Huffington Post.
"There is no requirement that the chemicals used in consumer products be tested for safety, even if they're used in products made for children...
"Would you give your child medicine that hadn't been tested to make sure it was safe? That's why parents are demanding action from Congress now. That's why we need the Safe Chemicals Act," she added.
