Jessica Alba: 'Bizarre childhood allergies cured by natural products'

Jessica Alba has revealed that she suffered from "bizarre" illnesses during childhood as a result of using toxic household cleaning products.

The Sin City actress has said that discovering the advantages of natural products served as the inspiration for her own non-toxic child and home care brand, Honest.

"As a child, I suffered from many different bizarre kind of health issues," Alba revealed in an interview with AOL.

"I realised over time that when I eliminated fragrances and toxic chemicals in my environment, and especially Clorox, Lysol, the harsher ingredients that are in those products, it eliminated my allergies and my reactions. And so that was kind of a breakthrough moment for me, in knowing that you can control the environment that you live in and it will affect your health."

Last month, Alba announced plans to release her first book - entitled The Honest Life - in 2013.

Alba recently said that she found giving birth to her second daughter was easier than her first.
